Phase 1 - Foundational Architecture
The first phase was engineering a foundational architecture to serve as a the backbone for an immense volume of data across multiple categories. We started with a list of all states and territories, then broke that down to the most relevant regions and locations within those states according to population density, economic activity, and overall growth trends we monitored across multiple sectors.
The end result is that when anything happens anywhere in the United States--we have a container and a bucket to put in.
Phase 2 - Data Acquisition
The second phase was engineering a database of links and sources, appropriately tagged-and-collared to deliver their information into the right containers and buckets. Referencing the data's foundational architecture, we populated a secondary database for data sources and links to cover all locations with significant socioeconomic activity.
This involved engineering a system that first ingests information that is unstructured and disorganized in multiple formats from multiple systems. It then formats that unstructured information into a standardized and sanitized version and stores it into a tertiary database for retrieval, analysis, and data-mining operations.

Phase 3 - Address System
The third phase was engineering a system to address specific subsets of that data; it had to be succinct, memorable, intuitive for people and easy for machines to process. After testing several addressing systems and exploring their implications in regard to dynamic object instantiation, memory consumption and query pagination, we settled on this format: united-states.region.locale/layer/page.
In the real world, the format is

Phase 4 - User Interface
The final step was consuming that addressing system to create an intuitive, convenient interface for people to access that information. Addressing the endpoint we developed, we created a user interface that pulls information based on the architectural backbone, then internally calls the right region and location, for the right data layer.
Next Step
We're working with the client to add local news, more data categories, create a notification system for subscribers. We are also putting in the foundation to bring the system to all English speaking countries in Europe, Asia, Africa, and Latin America.
